A small beach at the mouth of the river Yealm can be reached by footpath or ferry. Sandy beaches can also be found at Mothecombe and Bigbury, the later offering excellent golf as does nearby Thurleston.

Plymouth, with its historic Barbican and Hoe, also provides excellent shopping, theatre, ice-skating, swimming and leisure facilities. The city also boasts new attractions such as The Dome exhibition, the National Marine Aquarium and Warner Multi-screen Cinema complex.
